Wave International was appointed by the client to undertake the marine investigations required as part of the environmental impact assessment (EIA) for the proposed upgrade to Berth 14 in Bunbury Port’s Inner Harbour. The proposal aims to develop a coal loading facility for the export of coal from Bunbury Port. The objective was to undertake the outlined scope of work to provide information for the client for inclusion in the EIA documentation, required under the Environmental Protection Act 1986 (Public Environmental Review (PER) level of assessment).

The Project area included the dredge footprint, potential dredge placement area and the domain in which the dredge plume and dredge material placement may potentially influence the environment. The following work was undertaken:

  • Benthic Primary Producer Habitat Loss Assessment;
  • Hydrodynamic and Sediment Transport Modelling (and associated support studies);
  • Baseline Coastal Processes Survey;
  • Marine Fauna Survey;

  • Offshore Disposal Site Selection;
  • Overall Risk Analysis;
  • Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 Referral;
  • Sampling and Analysis Plan;
  • Dredging Spoil Disposal Management Plan;
